To
resolve conflict and wage peace, we need to build...
Urgency
- the urgency of wake-up and response to Peak Oil and
Climate Change is the one continuing item of prime news.
The rest of the news
is just oddments we like.
Strategy
- how we handle the urgency at the political level,
and at the personal level of what actions to take, coping
with shock, and planning to reorientate.
The
Transition Handbook - Rob's book is unmatchable
value. Each person needs to make these Transition sciences
and skills their own.
Solutions
Project - "101 solutions" to
a range of key global issues - "backyard",
community, national, global solutions
The
Lean Economy Connection - a vital list
of resources for timely change in response to dire global
challenges
Holistic
Booklist, help with Awakening
- waking up to the traumatic news affects different
people in different ways. Leap into action; suffer fear
and shock; go into denial; go deep within and shift
perception of the whole of Reality... |
The
Power of Community - How Cuba survived
her own Peak Oil crisis - adopting permaculture principles.
A profound inspiration and a primer to help us develop
our own EDAP
Energy Descent
Action Plan primer - draws on Permaculture
to develop resilience and envision steps of transition
from an energy-rich culture to a energy-lean future.
Greening
the Desert - desert near the Dead Sea is
turned into richly cropping orchards in far less time
than one would think possible - how much of our deserts
could be greened like this, quickly too?
Open Space
- "works best when the work to be done is complex,
the people and ideas involved are diverse, the passion
for resolution (and potential for conflict) are high,
and the time to get it done was yesterday.
World Cafe "conversations
that matter"
Groups -
descriptions of different kinds of groups which can
be useful for Transition work - representing nine different
"directions" of Life |
...the
power of community
"The
technologies exist to solve the [Climate] problems.
The policies that can accelerate them have been pioneered...
The piece that is missing is a worldwide movement in every
village and every city... that will create the political will
to make the transition happen."
New
page - more to follow...
I
believe that there is important work to do, to reach through
untold levels of denial about our situation on Earth. I believe
that unless we can reach depths of community-building as yet
unknown and unforeseen, we will have little future to offer
our descendants on Earth.
I
don't even really know how to begin.
Yet
I am sure that somehow this is the way forward.
Over
just the last few months, I've changed each key page on this
website from a pretty vague heap into a focused, informed,
positive portal. Sometimes I've gotten carried away and I've
had to crawl back to wipe clean the overenthusiastic, underinformed
statements that I've made at times. I've done this because
I care. I don't want a blog trailing out to infinity; I want
to distil a handbook, to do what's needed, to train up others
for the "War Effort", in as friendly, positive,
and creative a way as possible, that does not minimize the
urgency and importance...
It's
3.23 in the morning,
and I'm awake
because my great, great, grandchildren won't -let -me -sleep.
My great, great, grandchildren ask me in dreams "What
did you do, while the planet was plundered?"
...Would
it help to focus on developing a Gandhi-like Transition Community
that can
- concentrate
the energy still further,
- work
to get all kids in school to plant trees and learn gardening
- work
to get all university students involved in Transition
- ratchet-up
the "war effort" everywhere
- and
the "Transition science research"
- and
the adult "crash courses" in "Education for
Transition to True Sustainability"
- and
the emotional support for traumatic awakening
- and
the development of key skills for re-skilling... etc?
Here's
a remarkable video about Greening
the Desert
- we could green the whole planet, and sooner than anyone
might dream possible - and here's a couple of icons that speak
of sustainable community:
and
a mandala where I put icons that have life alongside the "official"
eight elements of sustainable community that sometimes lose
sight of the quality of life itself!

I've taken pictures from Rob Hopkins'
important "Transition Handbook" and from the Internet.
Please contact us if you are not sure you belong here and
we'll adjust or change the pictures.
