Polar bears are here to stay
Science &
Research

from Michigan Pete, comment at Gristmill on 26-04-08: I think we need to stop worrying about the polar bears... A survey of the animals' numbers in Canada's eastern Arctic has revealed that they are thriving, not declining... In the Davis Strait area, a 140,000-sq kilometre region, the polar bear population has grown from 850 in the mid-1980s to 2,100 today. "There aren't just a few more bears. There are a hell of a lot more bears," said Mitch Taylor, a polar bear biologist who has spent 20 years studying the animals."

Rebuilding Climate Science -
we need to understand and check it!

Brief Introduction: "I was a highly committed environmental activist, believing in Global Warming" - a challenge to widely-held beliefs about Global Warming and about the supposed "consensus" of scientists.

First step: Curious Anomalies about Climate Science is a skeptical climate science primer that also tells the story of my U-turn from AGW believer to sceptic. It includes a lot of references, including refs to other good climate science primers.

Second step: The Climate Debate gives some of the best websites and "portal" websites on both sides, and other key material with notes.

Third step (with Forum participation): Rebuilding - Gaining agreement on key Climate Science issues - before we can deconstruct the AGW "debunks" of climate skeptics' issues, we need to understand and agree enough among ourselves... this means a little more work than Part One (the primer).

Fourth step (with Forum participation): Deconstructing the AGW responses to skeptics' issues: to write well-referenced "mirror" articles that answer every "straw man"* article on every prime AGW website "rebuttals of skeptics' issues".

We need to
* rebuild the basic understanding of climate science
;and
* deconstruct all the "answers to skeptics"
that one finds at BBC, New Scientist, RealClimate, Skeptical Scientist, etc.

We hope to build up enough agreed science to refute every "debunk". Use the Forum to help with this.

True climate patterns vary quite a lot - beware "cherry picking" one piece of evidence out of context.                                          ----->
